Food Preparation and Nutrition
At Old Buckenham High School, Food Preparation and Nutrition is about much more than cooking. It’s a subject that equips students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed choices about food—for life. Through hands-on experience and engaging theory, students explore the vital role that food plays in health, culture, and sustainability.
Guided by our values of Community, Ambition and Respect, our curriculum helps students to develop practical cooking skills alongside a deep understanding of nutrition, food science, and global food issues. From mastering basic techniques to creating complex dishes, students are encouraged to take pride in their work, reflect on their progress, and challenge themselves to achieve excellence.
Our rural Norfolk setting reminds us daily of the importance of food provenance and sustainability, and these themes are embedded throughout our teaching. Students learn about seasonality, ethical food production, and environmental responsibility—preparing them to make choices that are both healthy and thoughtful.
Food Preparation and Nutrition at OBHS is a subject that builds independence, confidence, and life-long habits. Whether students go on to careers in the food industry or simply cook for enjoyment, they leave us with a vital skillset that supports well-being and personal development.
