The School Day
At Old Buckenham High School, our school day looks a little different to many others across Norfolk – and that’s something we’re proud of.
We believe in giving students the time and space to dive deeper into their learning. That’s why our school day is built around three extended lessons of 100 minutes each, with a daily Tutor Time session to start the day positively and purposefully.
Here’s how a typical day looks at OBHS:
Time |
Activity |
8:45 – 9:10 |
Tutor Time |
9:10 – 10:50 |
Period 1 |
10:50 – 11:10 |

Having fewer transitions between lessons means less time spent moving around the site, and more time spent learning. It also allows our teachers to explore subjects in much more depth, helping you to consolidate new knowledge, build confidence, and truly engage with the topics you study.
This structure works best for pupils who are ready to challenge themselves, work hard, and stay focused – qualities we expect and encourage in every OBHS student.
With a range of lunchtime and after-school clubs, enrichment activities, and extra support available, the learning doesn’t stop when the lesson ends. Whether you're on the sports field, in a rehearsal room, or working with a study group – there’s always something to be involved in.
