Student Leadership
Student Leadership at OBHS
At OBHS, we believe every student has the potential to lead. We are committed to nurturing leadership skills across all year groups, offering a wide range of opportunities for students to grow in confidence, responsibility, and influence.
Student Voice
Every form group has elected School Council Representatives who act as the voice of their peers. These students play a vital role in shaping school life, contributing to school improvement and decision-making through regular meetings and initiatives.
Wider Leadership Opportunities
Students across all year groups take part in leadership roles beyond the classroom. These include representing the school at open events, leading tours for visitors, taking part in student panels for staff interviews, and contributing to school reviews.
Peer Mentoring
Our thriving peer mentoring programme sees Key Stage 4 students supporting younger peers in Key Stage 3 through weekly, mentoring sessions. This initiative helps build strong relationships and a culture of support across the school.
Prefects
At Key Stage 4, students can apply to become Prefects—a highly respected and rewarding role. Prefects contribute to the daily life of the school through social time duties, leading homework clubs, and promoting positive behaviour as part of our anti-bullying strategy. We are proud that nearly half of our current Year 10 students serve as Prefects.
Senior Student Leaders
Those who wish to take their leadership further can apply to become Senior Prefects or Head Students. These roles come with additional responsibilities, including chairing School Council meetings, working closely with senior school leaders, and leading on whole-school and community projects.
