Behaviour
At Old Buckenham High School, we believe every student has the right to feel safe, respected, and ready to learn. That’s why we all follow clear expectations for behaviour — in class, around school, on trips, and even on the way to and from school.
This page is here to help you understand what’s expected, what support is available, and how rewards and consequences work at OBHS.
Our Expectations
At OBHS, we expect all students to:
- Be respectful to everyone — staff, visitors, and each other
- Take your learning seriously and help others do the same
- Follow instructions the first time
- Keep our school environment safe, calm and clean
- Represent the school well on the bus, on trips, and in the community
- Wear the correct uniform and bring the right equipment every day
We believe that good behaviour helps everyone succeed — and we support you to make positive choices every day.
Positive Behaviour = Positive Outcomes
We recognise and reward students who show our core values:
Community | Ambition | Respect
You’ll earn Positive Points for:
- Working hard
- Helping others
- Being kind and respectful
- Contributing to school life
- Taking part in clubs, teams or performances
As you build up your points, you’ll work towards a Foundation Award — a special achievement that shows you’ve gone above and beyond, both in class and around school.
You can also be recognised through:
- Praise in class
- Postcards and phone calls home
- Awards in assembly
- Being chosen for roles like Prefect, School Council, or Peer Mentor
How Behaviour Is Managed Day to Day
We use the Remind, Warn, Remove system in class:
- Remind – A quiet reminder to get back on track
- Warn – A warning and a chance to improve
- Remove – If behaviour doesn’t improve, you may be removed from the class to work elsewhere in the department
If you're warned this will be logged on Go4chools and your parents can see your record.
If you’re removed from a class, your parents/carers will usually be contacted directly and informed.
Sanctions & Consequences
If behaviour choices are poor, these are some of the consequences that might follow:
- Detentions – Lunchtime or after school
- Being removed from class
- Losing privileges like trips or events
- On-call support – If behaviour affects others’ learning
- Internal isolation or suspension – For serious or repeated incidents
Your teachers will always aim to be fair, consistent, and supportive. If you’re struggling with behaviour, there are people here to help you get back on track.
Behaviour Outside the Classroom
Whether you’re in school, on the bus, on a trip, or in uniform in the community, you represent OBHS.
Poor behaviour outside of school can still be dealt with by the school if:
- You’re on a school trip or activity
- You’re in uniform or identifiable as an OBHS student
- Your behaviour could impact others, our school’s reputation, or your own safety
This includes behaviour on school transport and online — including social media.
At OBHS, we’re proud of our students. We work together to build a community where respect, ambition and community guide everything we do. Make the right choices, ask for help if you need it, and take pride in being part of something special.
